AMHERST NY-
The Peak Performance Midget Girls fastball team bowed out of the annual Aunt Rosies tournament in Buffalo after 5 games last weekend. Peak had finished their pool play as the 6th seed out of 14 teams winning 2 of 3 games played on Saturday but did not have a good Sunday AM dropping both encounters and knocked out of the tourney.
The Peak Girls opened up with a 9-1 drubbing of the Nitro Fastpitch team out of Pennsylvania. Alissa Petrosoniak got the win on the mound allowing only 3 hits while Amy Campagnolo had a homer, triple and a double to pace the offense. Sam McMahon chipped with 2 hits and 2 runs scored.
Next up the Gators exploded for an 11 run 2nd inning in downing the Nightmare Fastpitch team of Wyoming New York 18-5. Campagnolo picked up the pitching victory with 4 strikeouts in the mercy shortened game. Offensively the local girls banged out 17 hits with apiece going to Alex Dunbar, Emily Cava and Alanna Hentges. Melissa Cook had a triple and a double as well plating 3 teammates.
In the last of the pool games the Peak Gators dropped a 3-1 close loss to the Western NY Diamond Girls who would turn out the champions of the tourney. Jess Turnbull pitched a complete game 6 hitter but absorbed the losing decision. Kayley Coish drove in Campagnolo with the locals only counter.
On Sunday the Peak girls got off to a bad start and could never catch up to the Sliver Starz losing 8-3. Petrosoniak and Turnbull split the pitching with the former taking the loss. Dunbar and Cava each had 2 hits and Campagnolo drilled a two run triple to get the Gators close but they could never catch up.
Last up the Peak Performance ladies were eliminated by another Ontario team from Halton Hills 5-3. Campagnolo took the loss after 5 innings of relief of Turnbull. Cook had a pair of doubles and 2 RBI’s in the defeat.
The Gator girls will participate in the provincial championships this weekend in St Catharines with 9 other teams with hopes of qualifying for the Canadian Championships in mid August in Montreal.
