COLUMBUS-The Guelph Peak Performance Midget Gator Girls made it to the quarter finals of the Ohio Stingray Showcase tournament before bowing out of the 32 team event recently. The Gators battled the 100 degree heat with a shortened bench missing Jess Turnbull (Team Ontario commitment) and Tori Patteson (injury) to open some eyes as the only Canadian entrant in the field with their finish.

Peak dropped a 5-0 decision to the Indiana Shockwaves to be eliminated with Alissa Petrosoniak allowing only 2 earned runs of her 5 in the game. The Gator bats went silent for the first time on the weekend with only Emily Cava and Rachelle Washkevich getting hits while the opponents banged out 10.

The Gator girls started the knockout portion of the draw with a huge upset over the Lasers Black team from Ohio who had not lost as of yet. Petrosoniak pitched this game as well scattering 7 hits and escaping a few jams. At the plate Amy Campagnolo was the hero drilling a long sacrifice fly to plate Cava for the walk off run in the 7th. Melissa Cook chipped in with 2 hits and a RBI of her own to tie things up earlier.

Next up the Peak girls downed the Lady Lasers with 2 runs in the last of the 6th inning. Sam McMahon’s looper to left field dropped to the ground allowing both Cava and Aaliyah Davidson to score the deciding counters. Kayley Coish chipped in with 2 hits as well and Campagnolo pitched a 5 hitter to earn the win on the mound.

Earlier the Peak Gators had tied up the Miami Valley Express on Saturday 1-1 in the finish of pool play. Davidson went the distance in the circle allowing only a pair of hits and 1 unearned run and also had a pair of hits at the plate. Campagnolo and bantam call up Laura Rumph both also had 2 hit games in the 9 hit attack.

Other tourney highlights included Cava’s grand slam accounting for all the local runs in a tight 5-4 loss to another version of the Lady Lasers program as well as Cava topping a great weekend with a 3 hit game versus the Valley Extreme in a 5-2 loss to open up the tourney.
