Blue wins the 2016 Provincials!

Posted on: August 15th, 2016 by Bantam Blue Manager

Guelph Gators Bantam Blue fought through 5 hard games yesterday to win the coveted gold in the PWSA Provincials, providing them the opportunity to fight for another gold in the Eastern Championships later this month. Blue started off a little shaky Saturday morning squeaking a tough win over Aurora 6-5. Unfortunately with torrential rains, the rest of play was suspended until Sunday. Guelph however didn’t let that dampen their spirits though, coming out strong on Sunday beating Ancaster 11-1, Napanee 12-2, and Kitchener 10-4. These wins brought Blue full circle back to Aurora but this time the girls were fully prepared winning easily 10-0. The toughest game of the day was Blue’s last game against the host team Brampton. Going into the final inning Blue was down by 2 runs but with a few key hits managed to win the game 5-4. Great day ladies – you did yourselves, your parents and your city proud!

Blue comes up big at the qualifiers

Bantam Blue fought hard over the weekend in Vaughan to win gold. The weekend started off with a tough battle against a Tavistock team winning 14-8. Next on Blues road to victory was a 10-0 win against the Windsor Wildcats. Unfortunately that was followed up by Blues first loss of the weekend against the host team Vaughan, losing 2-6. However, Blue fought back winning against Aurora 5-1. That last win set Blue up for a gold medal contention, however they needed to go through Vaughan twice to win. The first game was a nail biter with Blue winning in the 8th inning, 8-7.  Once Blue felt the gold was in their grasp there was no stopping them, winning the second game comfortably 15-4. Notable highlights for the weekend were Emma’s 4 home run bombs; Cari’s .500 batting average; and lastly the team’s overall batting average of .382!!! Well done Gators – a well deserved win!

Guelph Bantam Blue was 3 for 4 this week

Blue was busy this week playing 4 league games. The girls started off playing against Kitchener at home winning 8-3. Next Blue came up against a tough Tavistock pitcher. While the girls managed to get three hits off the Tavistock pitcher, they had a difficult night defensively, ultimately losing 3-6. I’m sure that loss stuck in the girls minds as they came out strong playing against LaSalle and London on Saturday. With the heat beating down on them (in the 40’s with the humidex), Blue ended up beating LaSalle 8-1 and London 12-0.  Great job girls! Next game is against Arthur with Qualifiers shortly after that.

Shutout win for Guelph Bantam Blue

Blue played an outstanding game last night beating UTM 4-0.  Defensively, Emily pitched an impressive game, striking out 7 players and only giving up 1 hit to our opponents. Cari, playing catcher, was as well key in Guelph’s success, making 3 assist and 8 putouts! Notable in her putouts was a tagged out relay from Lindsay in left field to third baseman, Jessie, and on to home to stop a home run attempt by UTM. Also notable defensively, were Ashley’s two, just over the infield catches, while playing shortstop. Offensively, the girls were hot right off the mark, keeping the UTM third baseman busy.  Noteworthy offensively, was Natalie’s homerun which brought in 2 runs for Blue. Congratulations girls, fantastic performance overall!

Another win for Blue over Enniskillin

Guelph Bantam Blue pulled off another win against Enniskillin Express last night. Erin lead the way with 3 hits, with Ashley and Ashton having 2 hits each.  Jaylene came up big, batting in 3 runners, while Emma and Emily batted in 2 runners each. Fielding, Lindsay had an outstanding night with 3 put outs and 7 assists, and Emily with 8 put outs. Overall, the girls had a great night beating Enniskilin 13-5. Good job girls!

Bantam Blue fought a hard battle

Bantam Blue fought a hard battle last weekend but ended up short losing to Lac Saint Louis Lions 2-1 in the semi-finals at the Mississauga Tournament. Blue started off the weekend with a tie against the host team – Mississauga North Tigers (3-3). Blue then moved on to win their next two games against Whitby Eagles (5-1) and Lac Saint Louis (9-1), which put them first in the round robin play. Unfortunately in the semi-finals, Blue came up against a hot LSL pitcher. The game was tied 1-1 after 7 innings and was broken by LSL in the eighth in an international tie-breaker situation.  Overall Guelph played extremely well and we are very proud of them!
