CANTON MICHIGAN:
The Guelph Peak Performance Midget Gators took part in the prestigious Compuware Showcase tournament over the weekend south of the border. In the 32 team event the Peak girls had a very solid showing finishing 9th among 32 selected teams and were the top Canadian team in their category at finish time.

The Peak girls opened up with a tight 2-1 win over the Michigan Bulldogs on Thursday afternoon. Jessica Turnbull got the victory on the mound allowing only 3 htis and striking out 4. At the place Rachelle Washkevich’s two run single in the second held up as the winning blow scoring Sam McMahon and Amy Campagnolo who reached ahead of her. Aaliyah Davidson chipped in with a pair of hits as well.

Next the Gators rallied with a 6 run rally in the 6th for an improbable 8-7 victory over the Ohio Wolfpack to remain undefeated in pool play. Emily Cava drilled a long two out 3 run homer to cap the comeback after Turnbull had a two RBI hit and Alanna Hentges chipped in with another two out single to get them close.  Campagnolo hung in to get the win over coming a tough start aided by 3 locals errors.

Next up the Peak ladies squeaked by the Naperville (Illinois) Diamonds 2-1 to win their pool. Alissa Petrosoniak got the complete game win here scattering 5 hits and fanning 5 as well. Washkevich again played the hero role with a 2 out single to centre scoring Campagnolo who had led off the last inning with a double to left.

In the elimination round the Gator girls struggled against the Moran Valley team from Pennsylvania but did enough for a 5-4 win. Turnbull allowed 9 hits but did strike out 5 and escaped numerous jams. Cava had a key 2 run single in the 5 run 3rd which decided things while Washkevich and Tori Patteson also singled during that inning.

Next Up the Peak girls opened up Saturday with a hard fought 1-0 decision over the Browns Fastpitch team of Michigan. Campagnolo had one of her best outings on the mound against a solid hitting squad allowing only 5 hits and getting some fine defensive support especially by 3rd baseman Davidson to escape 2 jams. Cava would score the winning run in the bottom of the 7th on a wild pitch while the Browns club tried to intentionally walk Davidson. Melissa Cook was the only Gator with 2 hits in this game.

The Gator ladies next drew the host Compuware team and dropped a tough 2-0 decision to them. Petrosoniak also had an outstanding outing against her experienced opponents allowing only 3 hits and 1 earned run. The Gator bats could not generate anything though and did not even get a runner into scoring position. Kayley Coish, Campagnolo and Petrosoniak all managed infield singles in the affair.

The Peak Performance girls ran out of gas late Saturday night and were eliminated 10-3 by the Pittsburgh Power club. The locals did get out to a 2-0 lead on a Hentges two run single in the 1st but after that the opposition got 10 hits off Turnbull and stole 5 bases which contributed in part to 4 Guelph errors on the evening.

The Gator girls take a week off ball to finish up high school exams and will return to action Tuesday June 26th at home at Exhibition Park in an 8:30 game.
